A Farm in the Grain Heartland of Southwest Finland
Sugar Beets, Grains, and Forage Crops
At Leipyöli Farm, we strive for efficient and sustainable crop production without compromising the environment. Our main crops include sugar beets, grains, and forage crops. Sugar beets and grains are cultivated under contract farming agreements for sugar mills and the grain processing industry. Forage crops are grown to feed our own cattle.
Through effective crop rotation, we aim to reduce pesticide use and prevent soil structure issues. To minimize erosion and nutrient runoff, we keep as much of our fields covered with vegetation year-round. Additionally, we maintain environmental conservation fields and buffer zones, where no fertilizers or pesticides are used.
LUMO Conservation Areas
Our farm also includes LUMO conservation areas, designated for biodiversity preservation. These areas consist of old, reforested pastures and field edges, which have been restored through clearing and grazing. These environmental conservation fields, buffer zones, and LUMO areas are primarily maintained by cattle grazing on our farm.
